For the human species, it is crucial for survival that each of us feel as if our existence is important and that we matter, otherwise what would be the point to living. In the cosmic perspective of things, humans are actually so infinitesimal that it is very hard to comprehend that any of us really do matter. Nietzsche agrees that humans are not necessarily significant in this life but in order for survival and motivation for future generations, this lie needs to be sustained through language and literature. He essentially argues that as â€Å"a means for preservation† of one is to develop intellect, and to do this is by the â€Å"art of dissimulation† (Nietzsche 765). He theorizes that art and literature must tell us that were important through lies and deception. Moreover, Nietzsche argues that humans are indifferent and do not hate deception but hate â€Å"the damaging, inimical consequences of certain species of deception† (766). As long as the lying in art do not harm then it is in the best interest that art does so. Similar to Freud’s concept of repression, he says that consciousness is what allows us to perpetuate these delusions; we bury the truth and hide behind the lies. Due to this, literature has already removed the truth from one completely. Comparably to Plato’s ideas, Nietzsche also believes deception is necessary, however it is not for moral reasons or to teach a lesson, but rather existential reasons; to ultimately persist as a species in this universe. Furthermore, if the truth is revealed, Nietzsche claims that it is still not actual reality. Language can only go so far as to describe an object using words it will never truly be able to tell you about the object. He explains that when something is discussed, full knowledge of the actual thing itself cannot be known but only the metaphors of the thing. He claims that when reading or listening, we are once removed from the true thing itself and forget the singularity of it. Nietzsche explains it as this, â€Å"the simulation of a nerve is first translated into an image: first metaphor! The image is then imitated by a sound: second metaphor† (767). He uses spoken language as a means to understand the fact that humans can never speak the full truth. A word becomes an image the mind creates, then when spoken becomes a sound – now already removing one from the actuality of the thing the word says it is, twice. Essentially, words can never fully simulate the reality of what it is trying to say. He continues, â€Å"We believe that when we speak †¦ we have knowledge of the things themselves, and yet we possess only metaphors of things which in no way correspond to the original entities† (767) further proving this point by saying that truth are always merely metaphors, never reality. The truth, Nietzsche declares is only a concept, and a vast web of lies. He says that all truths are solely illusions in which have been forgotten that they are illusions. These metaphors are the reason that access to the truth, and the actual things themselves are so far away the central meanings become lost. This relates back to Plato’s original theories that the truth is once removed from the thing itself in any literature. He agrees that when written or spoken, it can never truly represent the actual thing itself, just he explains it in a different way. Nietzsche finds lying a crucial part for existence. He believes humans actually need these deceptions; â€Å"only by forgetting this primitive world of metaphor† (769) and when the man forgets himself as â€Å"an artistically creative subject† (770) he argues that they then can live in peace. He not only argues that humans need deception but we actually seek them. Nietzsche theorizes that humans have an urge to let themselves be deceived, pretending and even creating themselves to be something they are not. For protection or acceptance perhaps, but also instinct. Since evolution, human intellect evolves from life experiences and interprets it positively. Humans’ consciousness’ deceives themselves every day simply as motivation to keep going. Nietzsche writes â€Å"Whatever the intellect now does †¦ copies human life, but it takes it to be something good and appears to be fairly content with it† (772). For most, people attempt to stay positive, and to achieve harmony and happiness but also for most this includes deceiving themselves. For example, the common phrase â€Å"I’m okay† is very often said when they are in fact not okay. Yet they trick themselves into thinking they are okay, to give themselves peace of mind, as well as reduce the worry of others. Similarly, to Plato in a moral sense Nietzsche does agree that these representations and metaphors should be created off of a somewhat ideal state of mind. However, in contrast Nietzsche further explains that the human consciousness creates these metaphors and illusions to protect and motivate themselves without even being aware of it, whereas Plato says literature does it intentionally to cover reality of detrimental situations. Ultimately Nietzsche responds to Plato’s ideas that representation is once removed from the truth by agreeing, but also contributing additional and original ideas of which the truth are merely â€Å"metaphors, metonymies, and anthropomorphisms† (768). All throughout On Truth and Lying in a Non-Moral Sense, he actually uses metaphors and specific examples in his own text, proving his points effectively. Due to the nature of language, human consciousness and intellect, the true actuality of things themselves as they really are become concealed and is inaccessible; however, it is regarded necessary and vital. There are other obvious reasons to believe the letter was written around 20th century. When I first read the letter I thought the vocabulary used was far past the time it was written in 1712. Too many things indicate it was not written at the time of the letter although most feel the content is very real and accurate. I think this is a letter was fabricated with content which was accurate at the time but the author and authenticity of it is invalid. Further, studies have also shown that hand hygiene practice adherence minimizes the acquisition of disease carrying pathogens that may be present on the hands and which ultimately minimizes the Healthcare Acquired Infections rates (Magiorakos, Leens , Drouvot, et al.,2015; Kirkland, Homa, Lasky et al., 2012). The alcohol based hand rubs should be used prior to any direct contact that a healthcare worker will have with a patient; prior to putting on sterile gloves before insertion of a central intravascular catheter; prior to insertion of any peripheral vascular or indwelling urinary catheters, or other non-surgical invasive devices; after physical hand contact with a patient's skin for example when lifting a patient, after taking a patient's blood pressure or after checking the patient's pulse; after coming into contact with mucous membrane, body excretions or fluids, wound dressings, noon-intact skin, if hands are not soiled in a visible way; after coming into contact with objects that are within that patient's surroundings though inanimate such as medical equipment; when moving to a clean site form a contaminate site after c aring for a patient; and after removal latex gloves. When washing the hands, all jewelry needs to be removed prior to commencing and hands rinsed under warm running water. The soap should be lathered using friction with all fingers and hand surfaces covered adequately. The faucet should be turned off by using the elbow or wrist. The hands should be dried using a single use towel or hot air hand drying machine. The skin should be patted and not rubbed so as to prevent any cracking. If one uses disposable towels, they should be discarded immediately after use. Excoriation on the skin may result in colonization of bacteria and increased possibility of blood borne viruses and other microorganisms' infection spread. Compliance to hand washing may decrease when hands are sore, in such instances, an adequate amount of antiseptic rub should be dubbed on all surfaces and the antiseptic allowed to dry on its own (WHO, 2009). Conclusion The increasing HAI rates along with evidence that suggests that infection control and active surveillance can help in the prevention of HAIs has resulted in the development of hospital infection and epidemiology programs. Brendel, who started at 59 from the beginning, reached up to 112 at bar 22 and slowed down to 75 when the wanderer theme reoccurred at bar 27. For this wanderer theme, Brendel also stretched the tempi to phrase the melody poetically. He speeded up from bar 31 and reached 90 at bar 33 before he slowed down to around 64 at bar 35 (see Example 2). But still, Brendel’s performance shares modern â€Å"strait† characteristics with Pollini’s recording because of its accuracy from the text. It was more difficult to find recordings earlier than the 1950s, but recordings from Walter Rehberg, Edwin Fischer, Vladimir Sofronitzky and Elly Ney proved that earlier approaches to the Wanderer Fantasy were somewhat different. Their practices of this piece were marked by agogic accent, rhythmic nuance, in a way with more freedom from the romantic approach and less accuracy from the â€Å"straight† playing. The recording Walter Rehberg made in 1927 started with a quarter note equals 158 and slowed down to an eighth note equals to 55 in Adagio. Not only the range for tempo rubato was wider, but there were also agogic accent and rhythmic nuance in his playing. An example would be at bar 32 in Allegro, where Rehberg created an agogic accent by letting the chord on right hand appear slightly later (Example 3). In Adagio, Rehberg spread out some chords from bar 9 to bar 17 to emphasis the melody (Example 4). The arpeggiated chord was a trait of romantic practice and was shared by Edwin Fischer in his recording in 1934. Fischer spread out every chord as an accent on sforzando from bar 165 to 176 in Allegro (Example 5). Fischer also did not follow every dynamic mark on the score. Sometimes a little accident happened during a live performance might force the performer to make an interpretation decision which in this case brought some mystery in Sofronitsky’s approach. That is why going to a concert is more exciting than hearing a studio recorded and edited, â€Å"perfect† version. In general, the earlier approach to Wanderer Fantasy was less rigid in getting everything on the score technically correct and accurate. However people would get to hear more different personal interpretation because these performances were so unpredictable. More recent, musicians tried to combine both accuracy and freedom in their performances. Lang Lang made an experiment with the Wanderer Fantasy in his live performance in 2003. Lang Lang’s playing was brilliant with his accuracy, however he might be a little bit off the line by exaggerating stretches in tempi to emphasis his â€Å"expressive† playing in romantic repertories. He slowed down so much in the beginning of Adagio as an eighth note equals to 44, even slower than Fischer’s 48. As for the wanderer theme, Lang Lang started normally with 78 at bar 27, however when it came to bar 31 where usually other performers speed up, Lang Lang slowed down to 63 (Example 2). This was kind of eccentric whether compare to Pollini’s â€Å"straight† playing or the earlier more romantic approach. By the end of Adagio, starting with bar 54, he slowed down to a 44 where Pollini kept 71 for an eighth note (Example 9). With this tempo and the right hand melody fading away, Lang Lang tried to phrase the left hand where here the left hand was really supposed to be just accompaniment. Lang Lang’s case indicated that knowing the limits of freedom to interpret musical works would help musicians express their ideas better. In learning these great recordings over time we can see how performance traditions changed and how this change affects future musicians. Like many other musical works, the Fantasy in C Major will always be an important work in music history not only because its’ unique structure but also because it challenges musicians to play and interpret according to their own performance tradition.
